It was 2:17 a.m. when Emma’s phone lit up.
She was half asleep, scrolling through old messages, when a notification appeared from an unknown number.
“I finally found you.”
She frowned. No name. No profile picture. Nothing.
Normally, she would have ignored it. But something about the message made her curious.
“Who is this?” she replied.
The response came instantly.
“Someone who has been looking for you for a very long time.”
A chill ran through her.
Emma assumed it was a prank. She laughed it off and put her phone away. But the next morning, another message arrived.
“You looked beautiful in the blue jacket today.”
Her stomach dropped.
She had worn a blue jacket to work.
No one should have known that.
Over the following days, the messages became more frequent.
The stranger seemed to know everything.
Where she bought her coffee.
Which route she took home.
What book she was reading.
At first, Emma felt scared. Then strangely fascinated.
She became obsessed with discovering who was behind the messages.
Every notification sent her heart racing.
Every clue pulled her deeper.
Friends warned her to block the number.
She couldn’t.
She needed answers.
Weeks passed. Sleep became impossible. Work no longer mattered. Her entire world revolved around the mysterious stranger.
Then one evening, a message arrived with an address.
“Come alone if you want the truth.”
Emma knew it was dangerous.
She knew she should call the police.
Instead, she drove there.
The location was an abandoned building at the edge of town.
Rain hammered against her windshield as she stepped inside.
The place was empty.
Silent.
Then she noticed photographs covering the walls.
Hundreds of them.
Pictures of her.
Some recent.
Some years old.
A cold wave of fear rushed through her body.
At the center of the room sat a single envelope.
Her name was written on it.
With trembling hands, she opened it.
Inside was a photograph she had never seen before.
A picture of herself as a child.
Standing beside another little girl.
On the back, three words were written:
“Find her first.”
Emma spun around.
A phone vibrated somewhere in the darkness.
Another message had arrived.
And suddenly, she realized the obsession had never been hers alone.
Someone else had been obsessed long before she ever replied.
